Can Amazon’s Kindle Fire beat Apple’s iPad in sales?

Kindle Fire vs iPad

Kindle Fire vs iPad

After the announcement of Amazon’s Kindle Fire tablet, 3.9 million units were shipped to consumers in Q4 of 2011 reaching 14.3 percent of the global tablet pc market.

With this volume of sales Kindle Fire becomes the second best selling tablet right after the Apple’s iPad. During the same quarter Apple shipped 15.4 million iPads and saw its share of the tablet market fall to 57 percent from 64 percent a year earlier.

Kindle Fire’s success comes at the expense of Apple as well as Samsung, however. Samsung sold 2.1 million tablets for an 8 percent market share, down from 11 percent a year earlier. Despite the disruption, Kindle Fire’s success will contribute to an overall increase in tablet shipments of 7.7 percent during the quarter. 7-Inch iPad Mini Not Likely – Analyst

7 inch iPad Mini

iPad Mini - 7-incher

Apple has been rumored to have an iPad Mini in the works, which is reported to measure 7.85 inches diagonal.

But even as suppliers say that Apple’swork on its miniaturized iPad is underway, industry analysts are wary.

We earlier reported on Apple having started sourcing components for the reported iPad Mini, which should sit right between Apple’s iPhone and iPad product lines in terms of size.

But while designers have lauded the move, it’s not likely to happen anytime soon, according to Wedge Partners analyst Brian Blair. Continue reading “7-Inch iPad Mini Not Likely – Analyst” »

Nook Tablet Shipments Reach 1 Million Units

Nook Tablet 1 M Shipments Barnes & Noble recently unveiled its own ultra-affordable Android tablet, the Nook Tablet, and then it started selling the device around the same time the Kindle Fire was launched. But while Amazon has already announced record Kindle Fire sales – without actually mentioning any sales numbers – Barnes & Noble is even more quiet when it comes to the total number of Nook Tabletssold to date.

A new report coming from DigiTimes claims that the company ordered one million units from its suppliers. However, as impressive as that number may be, it doesn’t necessarily mean Barnes & Noble actually sold that many Nook Tablet units:

Barnes & Noble should have so far taken delivery of one million units of Nook Tablet PCs from OEM production partners, according to an estimate by sources at upstream suppliers.

Barnes & Noble has been increasing its orders to upstream component suppliers as well as OEM contractor Inventec due to strong sales in retail channels during the Thanksgiving holiday season in North America, said the sources.Continue reading “Nook Tablet Shipments Reach 1 Million Units” »

Google Tablet In 2012 – Eric Schmidt

Google Tablets in 2012

Google Tablet ( Eric Schmidt )

Google’s Eric Schmidt was out having interviews with an Italian newspaper recently, and one of the things he brought up was something of a surprise to the tech world. Specifically, he brought up the idea of a Google tablet, and even went so far as to put a tentative date on the release: the first half of 2012.

Speaking to Corriere della Sera, an Italian newspaper which will require some translation to read, Schmidt remarked that, in the next six months, Google is planning to market a tablet. Given that that’s translated, and paraphrased, from the original Italian, there is some wiggle room in there.

Some have taken Schmidt’s remarks to mean that a marketing push is being planned for the various Android tablets out there–and there are plenty of those–or Google is contemplating a line of tablets similar in nature to the Nexus phone line. Continue reading “Google Tablet In 2012 – Eric Schmidt” »

iPad is one of the most important devices which invade our life. This device isn’t limited to read books, browsing internet, watching movies and listen to music but it is used also in schools for educations.

So that the folks at AppleInsider reported that The survey of 25 schools and their technology directors found that all of them were making use of Apple’s iPad while, just as interestingly.

So Apple had huge effect on education with this smart device and now schools should expect to use more iPad’s than computers over five years The Piper Jaffray survey also notes that iPads are seemingly being used to supplement full-blown computers, rather than replace them.

iPad 3 Usage

Apple iPad 3

Looks like Apple is on track to maintain its release cycle and iPad 3 might be scheduled for an early spring release in 2012. Original iPad and iPad2 were launched in April 2010 and March 2011.

According to Citi Analyst Richard Gardner, iPad 3 is all set for a big launch with double the resolution of previous model. According to a note he prepared for investors, “There do not appear to be any significant technical hurdles remaining” to iPad3’s release.

Timing of this launch is all the more important for Apple considering many other factors. It needs to fend off the competition that is going to come from the slew of Android tablet releases.

Android’s latest Ice Cream Sandwich version will be giving some tough competition for iOS. Continue reading “Early Spring Launch For iPad 3” »

Samsung Galaxy Tab Get Speaker Dock

Speaker Dock for Samsung Galaxy Tab

Samsung Galaxy Tab With Speaker Dock

We don’t hear much out of iLuv these days, and that’s why this is a particular pleasure to bring back.

Not only do we have a new item from iLuv, which is something of a rarity in and of itself, but their new item represents the first ever speaker dock for a Samsung Galaxy Tablet.

It’s called the iLuv iSM524, and it’s going to serve a variety of purposes all at once.

iLuv iSM524–also known as the ArtStation Pro, according to reports–offers up an independent remote control for skipping and replaying within video and audio.

The remote attaches to the base unit with magnets so that it’s always readily available, assuming you don’t just leave it lying around somewhere like I so often do with my remotes. Continue reading “Samsung Galaxy Tab Get Speaker Dock” »

First Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich Tablet

NOVO7 running Android Ice Cream Sandwich

NOVO7 Android (7-inch tablet)

Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich OS is the latest version of Android OS that Google has prepared for the masses. The first device that Google has confirmed will (and has in some areas) launch with Android 4.0 is the Samsung Galaxy Nexus smartphone. In the tablet field Google hasn’t confirmed Android 4.0 for any particular tablets.

Best of my knowledge at this time tablet makers Acer, Asus and Lenovo have only confirmed they will be upgrading some of their tablets to Android 4.0 when they have the OS ready –individual tablet makers do their own personal tweaks to the OS that improves performance in some cases but mainly they add pre-installed apps and do some UI element changes (colors, font etc.). T-Mobile Springboard Tablet Released

T Mobile Springboard Tablet

T Mobile Springboard (7-inch)

There was a bit of confusion early on in terms of the release date for the T-Mobile Springboard tablet, however it looks like any confusion has come to an end as of today. Yup, the T-Mobile Springboard tablet has been officially released.

The Acer Iconia Tab A100 and others have beat it to market, but its arrival in the US is timely nonetheless: it joins the petite tablet party at about the same time as the Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus and forthcoming Toshiba Thrive 7″, to name a couple.

We already knew that when the MediaPad landed here in the States it would be known as the T-Mobile Springboard.

The tablet has launched with T-Mobile as the Springboard, however some may recognize it by the proper name — the Huawei MediaPad.

But naming aside, the tablet has arrived sporting features to include Android 3.2 Honeycomb, a 7 inch (1280 x 800) display and dual-core 1.2GHz processor. Continue reading “T-Mobile Springboard Tablet Released” »
